MILLBANK – Professional football players have the Super Bowl, and Hollywood has its Academy Awards. Even ski jumpers and curlers have their day in the sun during the Winter Olympics. Millbank’s annual evening of elegance and extravagance, the Satin and Spurs Gala, is this Saturday, and organizers hope that it will be bigger and better than ever.

“This is the tenth year that the Millbank Boosters Club has held this premier fundraising event, so we wanted to make it even more special,” explains Gala Committee co-chair Emma Bartlett. “This is Millbank’s one night of the year to experience glamour and excitement.”

Past galas have featured line dancing, chocolate fountains and silent auctions, all in an effort to raise funds for civic improvements. Ms. Bartlett adds, “We are pleased to say that we are 1/12th of the way to purchasing a memorial plaque for the gazebo in Ottoman Park. Hopefully, this is the year that pushes us over the top.”

The Millbank Boosters Club has lined up an impressive menu of activities and events for the evening, such as a Cowboy Poetry Showdown featuring real live cowboys. “You can’t imagine how difficult it was to find real cowboys,” remarks Ms. Bartlett. “We had to go way out into the prairie wastes beyond Clean Springs to ‘rassle them up’.” Chefs Sergio and Maria Elena Iturribide from the Koffee Klatch will be serving up authentic cowboy cuisine, such as campfire coffee, fried dough and beans with pork cracklins.

“And there’s one more huge surprise for the gala,” hints Ms. Bartlett, “but absolutely NO SPOILERS. I think that this is an evening that all of Millbank will be talking about for years to come.” Ms. Bartlett urges all Millbank adults to assemble all of their cowboy finery and prepare to “dance their boots off.” Local musical favorites, Stu and the Millbank Magic, will perform everyone’s favorite country standards. Other businesses, such as Lotsa Value Hardware, will have unique items available at the silent auction.

Satin and Spurs Gala tickets are still available at the Koffee Klatch, Millbank Daily-Weekly offices, or from any member of the Millbank Boosters Club. The event runs from 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm on Saturday, February 15th at the Millbank High School Gymnasium.
