Dear Editor,

In my youth, if children weren’t in school, they were working in the furniture factory.  They weren’t running wild in the streets, unless they were scavenging the fishmongers for scraps.  What is this country coming to when we cannot keep the rapscallions in the hoosegow where they belong?

Signed,

Miffed Millbank Resident

Dear Editor,

If the kids are going to be this loud and obnoxious all week, it is obvious that they have plenty of energy for their studies.  Might I recommend lengthening the school day from 7 am to 7 pm, and the school year from August 1st to June 30?  And perhaps six days a week as well.  As I understand it, this is how they do it in Europe.

Sincerely,

Peeved on Davenport Street

Dear Editor,

It is a sign of this nation's malaise that we cannot find a better use for our young people than this endless "playing".  "Playing" is only another word for hooliganism.  Let's ban spring break from here on out, as well as winter break and especially summer vacation.  They do nothing but encourage the worst qualities in our youth - laziness, rowdiness and a feeling of entitlement.

Sincerely,

No More Vacations!
