MILLBANK - Whether Millbank residents are looking for a hearty breakfast or a homemade pastry with a bottomless cup of coffee, the Koffee Klatch is the place to be. Not only does this Millbank institution serve breakfast and lunch every day from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., it functions as the nerve center of the town. Countless clubs and organizations, including the Millbank Boosters Club, use this friendly spot to meet and mingle.

The Roe family opened the Koffee Klatch in 1946. On the menu were such culinary classics as “Cutlets with Homestyle Gravy” and even “Lard Buns”. As the times changed, so did the dishes offered to customers. In the 1970s, the Koffee Klatch made quite the splash with a foray into exotic ethnic dishes, including pizza and tacos. In the 1980s, the Roes attempted to attract an after-theater clientele. But, the Koffee Klatch has always served delectable baked goods, such as their world-famous (or at least town-famous) cinnamon buns and bear claws.

Seven years ago, soon after they attempted to re-name the restaurant “The Koffee Klatch Bistro,”second-generation owners Harvey and Minnie Roe decided to sell the family business. After a long search for new owners, they sold the business to the newly-arrived Iturribide family. “I wasn’t sure if these people from South America would know how to cook American,” admitted Harvey, “But it turns out that everyone understands a plate of freshly scrambled eggs.”

“My family had a whole chain of restaurants back in Venezuela,” explains Sergio Iturribide Sr. “This business is in my blood, and my family and I delight bringing good food to Millbank.” Indeed, the entire family pitches in to make and serve the delicious food, the wife Maria Elena and even little Sergio Jr. and Angelina.

The Koffee Klatch is located on 8th and Main, just across from the Celebrity Playho. If you mention this article to your server, you can get 15% off your next pastry purchase.
